When choosing an area rug, most natural fibers can not be dyed as the plant fibers won't soak up the dye. A lovely and durable exception to this rule is sisal which can be dyed a rich darker brown or black. Wool is often blended with sisal to create a richer array of colors that can be used in creating rugs and carpets. For an additional dash of color, 100% cotton canvas binding is often used around the edges of the rugs to create a ridge of color that compliments the rug.
If you have a room where a red or sage for example is a low-use color, you can bring that color to the surface of the room and use it in throw pillows and as a canvas carpet binding on the area rug to help pull the accent color through the room. Doing this adds balance and warmth to your interior. For a little extra sparkle in your room, use an extra-wide binding on your natural area rug.
Having trouble deciding on the colors to choose for your room? Simply make a quick list of the major and minor colors in your home decor then narrow down your colors to the ones that are used the least. From those two or three, choose one and that will be your accent color for your room. This is a very easy way to give your room a true designer touch.
